Re: Ubuntu 8.04 - Released
hi,
i am new to UBUNTU. before that i tried fedora, suse 10, mandriva.
although i am not typical user of linux OS, i still love linux.
recently the Windows Vista made me to think more about moving to LINUX, hence my Laptop model does not allow me to downgrade
back to XP.
I downloaded the UBUNTU on the fist day and tried installing inside the windows partition option.
I found that was a nice idea and i would say that was the simplest and handy way of installing a powerful OS in matter of minutes.
Hats off to the team.
I tried with my HP Pavilion dv6000 series, 1Gb ram, intel core2 T7100 @ 1.8ghz.
it took hardly 10 mins to install the OS from Windows. After a restart it took again around 10 mins to configure for the first time.
It detected my wireless and made it available just on click, but still the laptop wireless indicator shows 'RED'
although i could use the wireless.
1. Pidgin was nice to use, but i surprise why voice and webcam support is not made available ! :(
2. Firefox 3 beta is nice. Download dialog box looks cute.
3. Window Animation is awesome.
4. I saw that everything is packed inside a virtual disk, still the speed and response is marvellous.
issues:
While downloading some packages. i am not sure that is konqurer/adobe-flash plugin. it could not able to download from the site/took too much time.
i just clicked the cancel. after that i could not able to see anything in the desktop. but only able to navigate to other applications using Alt tab.
i do not want to wait for any time to get back the desktop.
so, i went into a shell mode Ctrl Alt F1, from there i pressed Ctrl Alt Del. After restarting, it gave a message that could not find the drive with uid-xxx.
and landed at the Busy Box shell. I have no idea how to continue. But i reinstalled.
for installing ubuntu, i created a new FAT32 partition and assigned a the drive letter that was
previously assigned for DVD drive. but, i do not think this i clue for the problem.
--------
Finally, UBUNTU was a nice OS to try and work with.
could you please tell me how to try the KDE 4.XX.
- thanks
