This is the screenshot of the cnet's download.com which shows the most popular downloads for windows. The first five positions are taken by anti-virus software :-). Sadly there is no 'Linux' download section but 'Mac' has a place.

Re: Windows and Viruses - Made for each other
No big surprise here!

"Sadly there is no 'Linux' download section"
Really? To a Linux distribution, cnet is an
insecure source. Each distribution has its
own secure (cryptographically signed) packages.
That's one good reason that there are no Linux
anti-virus packages - except for mail and file
servers that handle Windows data.
Re: Windows and Viruses - Made for each other
At least the list indicates that they are downloading anti-virus software BEFORE downloading Limewire....
Re: Windows and Viruses - Made for each other
Don't knock Windows Viruses, they are a huge source of revenue for anti-virus fixes, and Microsoft uses them as a justification for paying for legitimate Windows licenses to counter pirated Windows. They are not only made for each other, but they also depend on each other.
Re: Windows and Viruses - Made for each other
Even if you install and clean up viruses you ll get back the virus very shortly..

Re: Windows and Viruses - Made for each other
I do run a Windows Vista Machine and has not been infected for many months. When surfing I use either a virtual machine (my preferred choice) and , ocassionally, sandboxie or returnil. End of the prblem.
The more installations of linux distros will be available, the more insterested will be the virus maker on these systems and ... you guess ... you'll see linux antivirus on the top of the downloads.
